With an impressive 98 mm underfoot, the Great Joy far exceeds the PROSKILAB guidelines for this category.
There are no surprises with this freeride-style ski. It performs well off-piste and floats well in powder.
Its performance on groomed trails is adequate. The PROSKILAB reviewers appreciated its easy turn initiation and stability in long turns at high speed.
However, they said it lacked agility and was sluggish. The ski turns well but doesn’t give back much energy. It is demanding and you need to really drive the ski.
The Great joy is a good ski for strong female skiers who split their time equally between groomers and off-piste.
Heavier athletic female skiers will probably prefer the excellent Head Kore 93, provided they choose the right size. The Kore 93 was tested in the men’s All Mountain Back category and won “Best Ski 2019.”
