Dynastar Distorter review 2014

PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

The Dynastar Distorter we reviewed was sent with insufficiently centred bindings to optimise Freestyle performance. It's a good choice for good to expert skiers who're mainly looking for a ski that performs well in Alpine skiing, and who want to zip over a few mogul runs or pipes from time to time. It would be interesting to try this ski again next year with centered bindings.

Review: Pros

  • The Distorter stands out from its competitors for its excellent potential on the piste, especially in carved turns. With all the features of a giant slalom ski, it's fantastic in long turns at high speed as its stability and edge grip are truly remarkable for this category.
  • Its rocker makes it relatively responsive and easy to to use in turn initiation.
  • In the park, the reviewers noted its good performance in the pipe and switch, even at top speed.

Review: Cons

  • Designed for carving, the Distorter performs less well in skid turns and slides, and this makes it less versatile on the piste. In the park, the ski is relatively unforgiving when edge hold be less than perfect.

Manufacturer's remarks

The Distorter is designed for expert skiers who want to add a Freestyle ski to their quiver so they can easily switch from one terrain to the next.
The Distorter is the most versatile ski in its range. This light ski has bull-dog grip. Whether in the park, or on- or off-piste, the Distorter is definitely among the winners!
